♥ Valentine's Day♥ with Kids

Next week I will post and add to the Valentine page ~Valentine's Day for Couples

For some Valentines' Days is just another day. To me, it's an extra special day to show those I love how much they mean to me. We shower the kids with love everyday, but make it extra special on this day. I teach the kids how they can show their love to others, also. I don't get into the commercialism of the holiday, the dozen roses, box of chocolates, and cards galore. I teach the boys creative ways to show their love for one another. I also do not go overboard on the money issue... I do things as frugal as possible. Love is not associated with money.

My favorite website and magazine for kids crafts is Family Fun. Click on the link below for some great ideas to do with your kids the week before Valentine's Day.
Family Fun♥Valentine's Day

This is what I do for the kids on Valentine's Day:

1. Heart Shaped Pancakes~ divide pancake batter in half. Add red food coloring to one half. Make pancakes and cut heart shapes out of the middle. Be careful not to mess up the circle. Switch the hearts in the different colored pancakes, like a puzzle.(See picture below). Decorate with strawberries on side.
2. Red heart Shaped Boxes~ I bought each of them red, heart shaped boxes. I fill them with candies, homemade valentines cards, and sometimes coupons. Coupons like "No chores today!", "Ice cream date with mom and dad", " Go to movies with a friend", etc...
3. Lunches~ everything is heart shaped and red! Cut sandwiches, cheese slices, brownies cut into heart shapes. Red food coloring in pudding or yogurt. I also add a Valentine card I made for them! (I do not do this for my older children! They would be more than embarrassed!!)
4. School lunch treats~ I pass out lunch treats at school. Valentine snack cakes, cupcakes, cookie cakes, etc...
5. Valentines Day Dinner~ (My hubby and I usually go out the weekend on the closest Saturday) I make one of my hubby's favorites of mine. Lasagna, salad, garlic bread
6. Valentine Dessert~ Ice Cream Brownie Sundae- brownies cut into heart shapes, ice cream shaped into hearts(using a cookie cutter). Layer brownie, ice cream, then another brownie. Drizzle with chocolate syrup and decorate with chocolate covered strawberries. *Can you tell I am a major choco-holic? Thank goodness my kids love chocolate, too!*
7. Valentines day on the weekend~ If the kids do not have school we make it an extra special day with them. Picnic at the park, go to the movies, have movie night,etc....
8. Decorating~ After Valentines day one year I bought a lot of stuff on clearance. Plates, heart boxes, kids valentine table cloth, and candy heart string lights.  I also hang hearts that they have made the week prior. I like to decorate while they are sleeping. So, when they wake the next morning they are in awe. I do this every year, but they still love it and talk about it! Kids thrive and love routine!
9. Valentine's Craft~ I do valentines crafts with the boys the week before. We make hearts, valentines for close and distant relatives, valentines for each other(mom, dad, and brothers). Family Fun magazine is my favorite idea spot for crafts!
10. What we are doing this year~ This year it's on Sunday. Jeff and I are going out the night before. Valentines day we are(SHHH, don't tell them!)- going to church, pizza for lunch, going to the movies, home for dinner and dessert, then family night watching Supercross racing (My kids are obsessed with dirtbiking!!).

About Me

Holly Nelson "Let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a quiet and gentle sprirt, which is precious in the sight of God." 1 Peter 3:4 - "An excellent wife, who can find? Her worth is far above jewels." Proverbs 31:10 ~~ I am a stay-at-home-mom(SAHM) married to the love of my life, Jeff Nelson. We have six wonderful boys. Ryan(13), Seth(11), Ian(8), Noah(5), Luke(4), and Jack (born April 2010). We live in Tennessee on 4 acres. I grew up the first few years of my life on a dairy farm in Missouri and loved country living. I was saved at a young age by the grace of God and shed blood of Jesus during that time of simple country living. That part of my life is very dear to me. God taught me many things as a baby Christian that I can still think about today. Then we moved to Memphis when I was in the 5th grade. I learned to love the city life, too. It was a completely different way of life. My whole family still lives in Missouri, still does a little farming and simple country living. When Jeff, the kids, and I moved from the city to the country, I incorporated my city life with my country background. My mom laughs at me when I cut my grass on my John Deere tractor while drinking my Starbucks Mocha and wearing my fancy sunglasses. And when I am shampooing my carpet in my high-heeled black boots. I just love those boots! But I would love to share about how I got to be the way I am today, The Victoriously Organized Woman! I used to work as a supervisor at bank for years. I had to dress up everyday. After the birth of our second child we decide I should be a SAHM. One of the best decision I've ever made. But I made a bad decision, too. I hardly ever dressed up anymore. I hardly ever wore make-up. After about a year I looked in the mirror and said, "OH MY! Jeff has to come home to this!?!" He is so wonderful he said he liked me that way, "natural". Well , I realized that I didn't. It made me feel bad about myself. I felt disorganized, tired and stressed and a little "rough" looking. I felt I just couldn't get it all done. At this time I was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease. I wasn't able to do certains things. Like mop the floor of my completely hardwood floor home that I was obsessed about keeping clean. The doctor told me I couldn't have salt, caffeine, or stress! "What?! Are you kidding!?" So , then I decided to change my routine, thought pattern, and cooking. I began to get up early, shower and dress, put on make up. Always being ready to leave whenever I needed to. I established routines that helped me eliminate extra cleaning and stresses. I was able to make more time for myself and make more time for my family. And the family had more time for each other. I made more time for God and others. This made me feel better about myself. I am so happy about how this changed my life I want to share it with everyone.
